What is STEM

The design of which this website and its content is the seed is based on the use of STEM education methods – Science, Technology, Engineering, Math – encompassing teaching and learning.

In short, STEM is the development of activities that arouse the interest of people in these areas, encourage careers within these four slices of knowledge and culture, without forgetting the aspects of interdisciplinarity, integration and creativity that enrich any human activity.

The main objective is to foster the role played by these areas within the reality of a nation, so that their achievements and achievements put them in a prominent position in the international scenario, given the strong demand that the current world generates, which requires projects of very high complexity and efficiency within very strict cost parameters.

But it should not be forgotten that complex or very efficient solutions, although simple, can be based on principles already established, easy to understand. Many ideas and solutions evolve from small flashes of creativity or even rational approach to a problem.

One area that explores all these aspects and is widely used for STEM action development is space exploration: on our planet we have all the resources we need to use to solve problems. But on a spacecraft, the only resources she can count on to fulfill her mission and stay “alive” are those she has had since she left Earth, and if it’s a manned mission she can count on the creativity and knowledge of the crew.

In more developed countries traders fight for market share by offering products with a penny difference in consumer price. These are the details of quality and productivity dictating market rules. The same is beginning to happen with science and technology: in a few years it will not be enough to go to the moon to explore the first frontier of space. The nation will be more successful if it not only goes to the moon, but does it in the most efficient and productive way.

The investments in these endeavors are huge, and involve, besides money, other areas, other perspectives. From nanotechnology to psychology, through creativity and boldness. Science will provide opportunities for space business specialists, who will operate space tourism agencies, extraterrestrial miners. Space filmmakers will create entertainment or other not so noble applications.

In short, all this means new levels of research and development of products and ideas, which will come from minds that know the importance of STEM and act under its influence.

STEM Project – SP1A1

Goals

The objective of this project by Professor Alberto Romano Schiesari is to disseminate the STEM approach in educational institutions and companies, showing the advantages of the actions that this technique enables, disseminating science and technology with ballast in the exploration of space, a theme that should be highlighted in media in the 2020s, when projects aimed at the conquest of Mars, around the exploration of the moon, space tourism and various other space-related events will be happening.
